Today Lincoln hosted a wonderful airshow at the airport here, with many guests,
including the Red Baron team and the Blue Angels of the US Navy. Wow! Beautiful exhibitions of flying! Also vintage WWII aircraft were flown.
The afternoon culminated with TORA! TORA! TORA!, a reenactment of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.
The evening finished at Memorial Stadium where the Huskers rained down their own version of TORA! TORA! TORA! on Troy University, 56-0 was the final tally. This over a team that scared Florida State 17-24 (FSU scored late to win) and Georgia Tech. They were tied with GT 14-14 until the 4th period, when Tech scored 3 TDs to win 35-20. So, the Blackshirts held scoreless a good Trojan team that had just scored 37 points on two very good schools. The season looks bright!
Tomorrow we'll visit Christ's Place, our beloved Lincoln church fellowship and then leave for our trip to Scotland. We're flying Space-Available, courtesy of the US military, one of the blessings of our army retirement. More on the trip later.
Love and blessings,
Rog and Meg

Hanging Lake
As you travel on I-70 on the way from Denver to Glenwood Springs, you come to an exit labeled Hanging Lake. The trail begins near this part of the river which runs alongside the interstate.
You can leave the highway and your car at that point and climb a 1.2 mile trail along a mountain stream to this beautiful small collection of water, the Hanging Lake, on the side of the mountain. It is fed by waterfalls and has many small trout in its crystal-clear waters. It's a fairly strenuous hike that takes around 3 hours roundtrip.
If you go around and above the lake, you come to "Spouting Rock", a natural spring on the side of the mountain that spurts water continuously.
Ah, Colorful Colorado!

Capitol Reef National Park
We had not heard of this national park until this trip and some friends, the Smiths of Lincoln, NE, who joined up with us in Utah, told us about it. It's a beautiful area of our country and its chief feature is a "fold" of earth over 100 miles in length. Check it out further at http://www.nps.gov/care
This one is called the "Egyptian Temple." You can see most of the sites in a day of driving but there are many interesting hikes and a lovely camping area in the park that could interest you for several days.
That includes these Indian petroglyphs, or drawings, that are in the park's boundaries.
Thanks for following our travels.

Bryce Canyon
Zion National Park
Our most wonderful recent discovery has been the national parks of southern Utah! One word over and over: Wow!! The mountains are glorious! These are a must-see for everyone. These are some of the prettiest scenes we've ever seen. The campgrounds are nice and the park shuttle system is perfect. Some more pictures later.

Heidi's Party
Heidi, (in green on the right behind Sabrina) a friend of Sabrina's and a friend of ours, had a party for us on 1 September before we left Pasadena. She invited us to her home for a fun get-together with a lot of friends. We had some great food and conversation. Thanks, Heidi! And thanks to all our new friends!

A Day With the Angels
This is Meg's Cousin, Mike, who lives in Irvine, California and whom Meg had not seen for thirty years! We were able to get together, meet his family, and attend an Angels baseball game.
And look who's on the jumbotron! Yours truly was randomly chosen from the crowd as the Fearless Fan of the game! A nice treat! The Angels lost that game but the day was fantastic anyway. Mike, Annalee, Aundisue and Nancy: thanks for a great reunion!

The Huntington Gardens
Last week Sabrina took us to one of her favorite spots in the LA area, the Huntington Gardens. Fantastic! The gardens contain a phenomenal number of plants, divided into several world climate zones. You move from palms to Chinese gardens to desert cacti. The library is phenomenal, containing a Gutenberg Bible and original Chaucer and many other rarities, arranged in a very enjoyable layout.
The art collection is second to none, with many works by the master, including the Blue Boy, by Gainsborough, long one of my favorites. Check it out at www.huntington.org/
Here's a small cactus plant and a bumblebee nearby.
