In January we again visited with Sabrina and our California friends. We began as we often have by attending the New Years (that's Hogmanay in Scots) dance. We had Christmas dinner with friends there and had a very nice time.
Ashley joined us in LA and we attended a couple more Scottish Country dances and visited the La Brea Tar Pits. 
On our way to a Scottish dance on the 17th we had a flat tire, which we repaired with the spare. After the dance we blew out the spare! No accident but we did spend a long time waiting for the tow truck. Our friend Geoff drove out on the highway and sat with us while we waited....a good friend!
We are members of Escapees, an organization of RVers, and we have clubs within Escapees that are devoted to different hobbies and interests. The groups often get together at Quartzsite, AZ in January, and this year we met with the geocaching enthusiasts for about 3 days of geocaching fun.
While there we reached our 3000th found geocache milestone. Then it was off to a weekend in Yuma for the Southwest AZ Geocaching Mega-event. Didn't win any prizes but had a good time and met some of our caching "heroes" from California, "Terra Girl" and "Max Power,"
and "Not Tom" (Jerry). On the way back to the San Antonio area we stopped in Bandera, Texas for the SMART Superbowl Muster.
Some enjoyed the game more than others! A highlight was the Boy Scouts' Flag retirement ceremony where honors were given to "tired" flags and they were reverently burned. |

We all swam in an underground river near Playa del Carmen, Mexico 
A Mayan mask of unknown age or history was found in this cenote.Later in the month we attended the Texas Geocache Challenge Mega-event in Brenham, TX.
A nearby town, Independence, is the birthplace of Texas. This is the little Baptist church where Sam Houston was baptized. 
At some point he carved his initials into the pew in front of him. 
Baylor University was founded here before being moved to Waco. These beautiful columns are the only reminder.
Roger, the Magician, was the featured entertainer. 
Our Grandson, Phineas, turned 7 years old and we celebrated with lunch at Cheesy Jane's a local retro burger place with great milkshakes. We followed that with an afternoon at the local Snake Farm and Zoo. 
We've had a wonderful 2016 so far, filled with travel and family. Thanks so much for coming along.
